NewSubMagazineServices renews subs without permission
Not only do they automatically renew without permission, with no notice, they make you call their "Automated Service" where they make it nearly impossible to unsubscribe, you cannot reach a human being, and they deduct fairly hefty service charges when you do finally manage cancellation. They ask you "trick" questions, which make it SOUND like you are cancelling, but if you answer "yes" you are actually EXTENDING your subscription for another three months.
What an incredible rip off. Additionally, I had to dial into the same horrible machine four times: once for each magazine they automatically renewed by charging my credit card
Newsub Magazine Services
I've been receiving issues of Entertainment Weekly lately. What surprised me is I have never expressed interest in this magazine.
I sent EW an e-mail asking them how I got on their mailing list, since I don't remember ever even considering a subscription to them. They're response was that their records show a subscription in my name was made to them through this agency called Newsub Magazine Services.
How NMS got my info is beyond me. According to EW, I have to call NMS to cancel "my" subscription. My question is how these leeches were able to get a hold of my info.
Charges for 2 mag subscriptions offered as club intro
Charged for two magazine subscriptions. One is Time Magazine and other is People magazine.
These were offered as trail subscriptions from Books A Million book club. I have tried to contact someone in person after being charged for each magazine with no luck. I have recieved nothing by mail or email telling me to cancel before they drafted/debited payment from my account. All I ever get is automated service from which I get nowhere.
I am very upset about this.
Also can not locate anything about the service from BBB. I would like my funds to be refunded to my account at once!
Unauthorized use of my credit card
What gives you the right to authorize payment to a magazine company and charge it to my account? I can get a renewal for $16.00 if I so choose, but, you renew the same magazine that I'm getting for $30.00, I am furious.
I intend to fight this tooth and nail. It is disgusting and I'm hopeing that everyone this happens to will retaliate.
I was furious reading my emails and a confirmation from ESSENCE magazine for a renewal good until 9/11 , I had no knowledge of this, it was not authorized, I am livid as to how my account was drafted without my knowledge.Who is NEWSUB? I am seeking legal advice tomorrow am.
This company is a scam! Rip Off!
This company scams people and rips them off. NEVER DO BUSINESS with them.
They sign you up for a magazine when you buy things at stores and then charge you for years and years without getting caught and then they are really rude when you call them out on what they are doing. They should be shut down. Horrible customer service, rude people on the phone that couldn't care less that what they are doing is wrong.
They make you feel like you are dumb and they pretend that there is nothing they can do to help you because everything was explained in the TERMS OF SERVICE AGREEMENT that was printed on your receipt in tiny print. Stores claim that they explain all of this to you at the time of purchase but they don't and you lose in the end.
Unauthorized credit card charges for magazine subscriptions
I noticed credit card charges for two magazines that I knew I didn't renew. I usually pay a discount rate, and these subscriptions were the full rate.
I called 877-813-**** and (at the suggestion of another online posting) kept dialing a bunch of random numbers (which the automated voice did not like) until I finally a got a real person. It was clear that she got these calls all the time. She explained that, when I filled out a feedback form for Bizrate, I had elected to receive the "gift" of two magazine subscriptions for $2 each (which is true), but the "fine print" on that "gift" was that the subscriptions would be automatically renewed unless I expressly told them NOT to renew. I told her that I did not want to renew the subscriptions and asked her to credit my account.
She said she would -- I'll have to check next month's credit card bill. I then asked her if she saw any other magazine subscriptions on my account, and she mentioned a third magazine that I definitely have never subscribed to and wouldn't even take as a "gift," so I told her to cancel that one too. (The third magazine subscription had not been billed yet, so no credit needed.) Ironically, she then offered me a selection of "gifts" for being a good customer -- stainless steel mug, phone card, etc.
-- which I declined.
Moral of the story: check your credit card statements; don't give up when you reach the automated voicemail choices; and don't accept "gifts" that seem too good to be true.
Rip off!
This company is aweful! But the talking jibberish works. Was able to cancel all 4 magazines at one time with a real person. They billed me $43 for Southern Living when you can get the same thing direct for only $21. What a rip off!
I have not received Eating Well magazine in 6 months yet they renewed it?! Excuse me?
I originally ordered Metropolitan Home and when it went under they started sending me Women's Day. This magazine is far inferior and not even the same type of publication. Then they automatically renewed this one for $31! It is not worth $31 and I never ordered it in the first place!
And for the 4th one I just didn't want it anymore.
NewSub magazines Services LLC charged my card against my will
A month ago I received 2 cards in the mail from NewSub Magazine Services. One was a renewal notice for a magazine they had sent to me on a trieal basis and the other was for a magazine I have never received or ordered.
I called to cancel both subscriptions because I did not want to pay the full(overpriced) amount. I was able to cancel the bogus magazine subscription I have never received, but the sutomated system informed me that they had no record of my subscription. In fact, after the other was cancelled, they had no record of any subscriptions for me. However, today I noticed a charge on my credit card from them for the mysterious disappearing magazine subscription.
I called and cancelled and I disputed the charge with my credit card company. I believe this was intentional and I am no longer going to do any business with this company!
NewSub Magazine Scam
NewSub Magazine Services, LLC has also taken the liberty of deducting fees from my checking account today. Thank goodness, I check my account nearly every day! I also received a postcard in the mail today telling me I must call an 800 number by May 14 to cancel subscriptions on four magazines or I will be charged for them.
When I called there were no options given to the first question but to renew---now how does one call the company to get the unauthorized money taken out of my account put back in?!?
This has to be illegal. I have never had anything like this happen to me.
Charged my account without permission
Newsub magazine needs to be sued. They have scammed me, and from what I can tell, MANY other people.
They somehow charged my debit card without my consent. I only found out because I constantly check my online bank account, and saw that there were numerous charges from these people.
I am on to them now, and now they will have to deal with me. My next stop is consumer reports, and I will find out what I have to do to shut them down.
I suggest that everyone else who has been conned do the same.
BEWARE OF NEWSUBMAGAZINE !!!!!!!!!!
Unwanted automatic continuance of subscriptions
Received a notice that unwanted magazine subscriptions would be continued and charged to my credit card without my authorization. This came from NewSub Magazine Services, LLC, C/O Processing Center, PO Box 30468, Salt Lake City UT 84130.
In trying to cancel all subscriptions I was forced to listen to numerous sales pitches. It took about twenty minutes to cancel three magazines, but the instructions were very confusing and irritating.
I finally did receive confirmation numbers for the three magazines. Very questionable business practice.
If someone doesn't have either the patience or skills to thrash thru their nonsense, they will be charged as indicated.
I have notified my Better Business Bureau. Very fraudulent practices. It Stinks!
Charged my credit card without authorization
I called the number on my credit card statement and got the automated run around several times. Then I called and was silent for a few minutes and finally a real person got on the line.
So if your are as frustrated as I was you might try this. I also called my credit card company and was told by the first person there was nothing they could do, but called them back and was assisted by someone else in removing the charges. Thank-you! In addition I spoke to the manager of the store offering the "free-trial" and they were quite helpful and promised to look further into the type of company they are doing business with.
Synapse--Newsub. Magazine - what a scam!!!
Credit Card charged w/o my permission
I just received our Bank of America credit card statement and noticed two charges for merchandise I had not requested. Both of these entries had 800 telephone numbers which I called.
I found out that these magazine subscriptions were originally ordered through Newsub Magazine Subscription. However, Newsub renewed these subscriptions for Better Homes and Gardens and National Geographic Adventure without my request and then charged my credit card for those subscriptions also without my permission. When I went to cancel the subscriptions this week, Newsub did not refund the complete amount. One charge was for $29 and I have received a credit for $26.58 (not the full charge) and the second charge for $31, I am waiting for a credit to appear in the amount of $27.12.
Both of these refund amounts were given to me during my automated telephone call.
Also Newsub attempted to give me some additional great magazine deals which I declines, or at least I hope I declined them. Lesson learned - do not order any magazine subscriptions with your credit card.
Did not cancel as asked, but charged my card
I am very upset that I called and cancelled this order before it was delivered and they still billed my card, and I don't get the magazines. I have made several phone calls regarding this matter, but I keep getting the same information that they will not future bill me.
The offer was if you were not satisified you can call and get a full refund. That information it totally incorrect. I called again this morning and explained that they have charged my card for 3 magazines that I do not want.
She offered to cancel but to allow me to continue to receive the magazines for $5.97 for 11 issues. I refused.
New Sub Services ***!!!
Thanks for the info about not pushing any buttons. It took 10 min but got a real person and confirmation #. I asked for extension so I could reach Debbie Taylor (a real name??)if I have any other problems. Of course that is not possible, but if you push the 0 button TWICE you should get a real person!
I never ordered any mags they sent them to me as a free gift when I purchased a book! Nothing in life is free!!! This company insisted by law they must send out renewal info but they never did! Who checks up on them? With as many complaints I have read today someone should! This is a scam and a disgrace!
I also tried calling the magazine itself( cooking light, Time, and National Geographic) but they told me they could not cancel any orders placed by New Sub.
Here is an address I obtained who knows if it is real but my fury is too great not to write letter.

I also encourage everyone not to just vent here but call the Better Business Burrow and report this company!

Same thing happened to a friend of mine! She had tons of overdraft fees because of them draining her savings and wouldn't refund any of it!
The same scenario happened to me also. I read complaints for this issue and someone mentioned that you can try to call the number 203-595-**** to get someone in person instead of automated service.
I will call them too. Good luck Cherowen!
I did the same thing. Books A Million told me if I didn't want the subscriptions that they would automatically be cancelled if I didn't call to renew.
Well, I didn't call and I got charged for People and SI. I called the 1-877 number. If you hit 0, you can talk to a real person.
They credited my account and were very friendly. It stinks that I had to go through that, I wish Books A Million would have explained it better.
I fell for this trick, as well. After dialing the number that was given to me, I, of course, got an automated answering machine.
Guess they can't hire someone to sit at the phone and answer it so costumers can talk with a real person. I'll continue to shop at BAM, but don't plan on signing up for any "free trial."
